On October 1, 2024, at Ciputra Artpreneur, our principal architect, Budi Sumaatmadja, shared his insights on adaptive design in architecture at Lixil Day of Architecture and Design (LDAD), highlighting two key projects by Anggara Architeam. His presentation, “Architecture that Transforms with Time,” provided an in-depth look at our past work on Hotel Indonesia (now Hotel Indonesia Kempinski) and our ongoing project, Epiwalk Kuningan.
Hotel Indonesia, situated in the heart of Jakarta, carries a rich historical significance, having been built for Indonesia’s first Asian Games in 1962 as the country’s first high-rise building. With the urban landscape evolving rapidly, the building underwent a major redesign starting in 2003 and was completed in 2008. This transformation was a collaborative effort between Anggara Architeam and the renowned international architecture firm Callison RTKL.
Epiwalk Kuningan, located in a prime area of South Jakarta, is surrounded by high-rise residential and office towers. Positioned along the riverside, the low-rise development integrates with its surroundings, offering visitors a unique connection to the riverfront. Through biophilic design strategies, the building provides a closer connection to nature, enhancing the riverfront environment for visitors. This ongoing project is scheduled for completion in 2025.
LDAD 2024 was an incredible event, offering both networking opportunities and a rich learning experience. Esteemed speakers included architects and leaders such as: Antoine Besseyre des Hortes (Head of LIXIL Global Design Asia); Budiman Hendropurnomo (Director of DCM Jakarta) ; Olga Bolshanina (Associate Partner at Herzog & de Meuron) ; and David Gianotten (Managing Partner of OMA), with Kamil Muhammad (pppooolll) moderating the event. We would also like to thank the LIXIL team for organising such a successful event and the fun walking tour of Hotel Indonesia Kempinski.
