Summarecon Mall Bekasi 2

Jakarta, Indonesia

Summarecon Mall Bekasi 2 (SMB 2) is a commercial extension of the existing Summarecon Mall Bekasi 1 (SMB 1) in North Bekasi, West Java, with a gross floor area of approximately 81,000 square meters.

The project responds directly to North Bekasi’s accelerating urban growth and the post-COVID shift in public expectation toward healthier, more open built environments.

The architectural language is grounded in a nature-integrated approach, articulated through fluid, organic forms across the building envelope. The most prominent expression of this is the Koi fish–inspired roof over the swimming pool area, a structural and symbolic gesture referencing balance, harmony, and continuity. This unique feature carries through the interior spatial sequence, shaping the atrium volumes including sports and wellness zones into a coherent design narrative.

SMB 1 and SMB 2 are connected internally through a series of programmed atriums functioning as spatial anchors and circulation attractors. Each atrium is developed around a distinct nature-based theme: Aviary, Nexus, and Nautical — translated into architectural form through material texture, spatial proportion, and natural daylighting.

The atrium voids allow natural light to penetrate deep into the plan, reducing reliance on artificial lighting while reinforcing the spatial quality of each zone. The result is an immersive experience that deepens engagement between visitors and the spatial environment.

Apart from its retail program, SMB 2 integrates a comprehensive wellness component featuring both indoor and outdoor sports facilities with high-ceiling volumes, a purposeful spatial program response to the behavioral shifts, where wellness activity demand has increased as people place priority on physical health, active living, and the quality of spaces that support it.
