Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) Jakarta recently played host to the Jakarta Architecture Festival, a gathering of minds in the architectural sphere. It was a momentous occasion for Anggara Architecture as our Founder, Budi Summatmadja, was invited to participate as one of the esteemed speakers. The topic of the talk is “Dense-City: Transition Towards Tall & Compact Jakarta” with a crucial discussion revolving around Jakarta as a growing and developed city.

In his dialogue, Mr. Budi delved into the multifaceted urban evolution that Jakarta has experienced in response to population growth and the ensuing city development. This transformation has given rise to a proliferation of tall buildings, the creation of nine central business districts (CBDs), as well as the expansion of Jakarta to become the world’s second-largest urban agglomeration. However, this rapid expansion has not been without its challenges, including traffic congestion and heightened pollution levels. Budi highlighted how public transportation initiatives are being developed to address these concerns and enhance urban mobility.

With recent news of the impending relocation of the capital city and the subsequent loss of function of government buildings posed an intriguing question about the future of these structures. Additionally, the challenges associated with repurposing and retrofitting older buildings in a dense cityscape were addressed.

A key focus of the discussion was Anggara Architeam’s innovative solutions for these challenges, underpinned by strategic vision and a commitment to sustainable urban development. Mr. Budi unveiled mock-up project models and visual interpretations that vividly illustrated the firm’s forward-thinking approach to urban design and architecture.
