MURI Recognizes BSI Aceh as Indonesia’s First Syariah Bank with Green Building Gold Concept

How can architecture embrace both local culture and sustainability? This question lies at the heart of the Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) building in Banda Aceh, which has recently received national recognition. The Museum Rekor-Dunia Indonesia (MURI) awarded the project as the first Syariah bank building in Indonesia designed with the Green Building Gold concept.
A New Landmark for Aceh
Standing 10 stories tall, the BSI building has become the tallest building in Aceh, redefining the city skyline while also reflecting the region’s cultural heritage. Its architectural design is not only modern and functional but also rooted in Aceh’s identity, blending tradition with forward-looking innovation.
Green Building Features
More than just a landmark, the BSI Aceh building sets a new benchmark for sustainable architecture in Indonesia. The project was designed with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in mind, integrating eco-friendly features such as:
Energy Efficiency: Equipped with 37.4 kWp solar panels, energy-saving LED lighting, and high-performance glazing, the building achieves up to 30% annual energy savings—equivalent to reducing around 386 tons of CO₂ emissions each year.
Smart Water Systems: Rainwater harvesting and recycled water are used for irrigation and sanitation, reducing reliance on conventional water sources.
Eco-Friendly Materials and Spaces: Green open spaces and environmentally friendly materials contribute to healthier surroundings for the community.
