House of Roman
Jakarta, Indonesia
House of Roman is the ceramics brand headquarter in Meruya, West Jakarta that Anggara designed with the idea of “artistic frames”. Two distinctly slim masses, housing a showroom and office, are strung together under one ribbon-like roof.
The open area in between the masses are punctuated with a circular hole, framing the sky for the users beneath. A massive sculpture is designed to be placed underneath this, further emphasizing the artistic theme of this building.
The material and colour choice for House of Roman has been fine-tuned to match the client’s brand identity, which is the reds and yellows found in Roman Ceramics’ corporate logo. One of the unique characteristics of this project is its narrow site shape, furthermore located on the side of a major toll road in West Jakarta. Thus, the design response is to focus on the “planar” characteristic, by playing with rhythm and contrast as shown in the material choices on the facade.
Enveloping the east mass of the building, which houses the showroom, white marble-patterned ceramic is used as a unique facade. This is also a way to showcase one of the company’s esteemed ceramic products.
